How to Get Your Nigerian Permanent Voters Card

    nigeria permanent voters cardThe Nigerian general elections are fast approaching; to exercise your civil right as a Nigerian in voting your preferred candidate, you need a Nigerian permanent voters card. The Independent National Electoral Commission – the commission in charge of issuing voters card has announced that without the permanent voters’ card, you won’t be allowed to vote.

    In this article, you will learn how to apply for the permanent voters’ card. Although INEC has not announced when it will close the registrations for the voters’ card, according to the law, it must close at least 30 days before the election.

    It takes a while before the permanent voters’ card would be ready for collection so it’s advisable you register before the election time draws closer. INEC has scheduled the 2019 Nigerian election to commence on the 16th of February, 2019.

    Requirements for Nigerian Voters Card

    1. Applicants of the Nigerian voters’ card must be citizens of Nigeria and must have attained the age of 18 years. Underaged registrations are illegal and would not be accepted.
    2. You must also be a citizen of Nigeria to apply.
    3. You must either reside, or work, or originate from the local government, ward or council covered by the registration center.
    4. Applicant must be physically present for the registration.

    How to Register

    Visit any INEC local government office in your place of residence or local government of origin. You can find the list of INEC local government offices on the official INEC website. Click here and then click on the state you reside or originate from to see the list of INEC offices in that area.

    After you have found the address, visit the center within working hours to register for your voters’ card – Mondays to Fridays, 9.00 am to 4.00 pm.

    The registering officer will question you, take your digital photograph and fingerprints. Once that is done, you will be issued a temporary voters card.

    The temporary voters’ card cannot be used to vote but it is needed to collect the permanent voters’ card.

    How to Know When your PVC is Ready

    INEC will announce when it has produced the permanent voters’ card. So you could see this on television, radio or newspaper publications.

    Once the permanent voters’ card is ready, it will be distributed to different locations for collection. You can find the location of your PVC by checking the INEC PVC locator.

    Please note that if you already have a permanent voters card from the previous election, you do not need to register again.
