The Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Ikorodu has emerged overall winners of the 19th Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) after winning 16 Gold medals at the competition. The event was tagged “Nassarawa 2017” and held at the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, Nassarawa state.
A total of 81 Polytechnics in the country took part in the competition with over 4000 participants. The participants competed in 12 sporting events ranging from running, high jump e.t.c
LASPOTECH won 16 gold medals, 16 silvers and 15 bronze medals bringing to a total of 47 medals. The Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti came second in the competition with 15 gold, 10 silver, and 12 bronze.
All-time champions Yaba College of Technology who had won the competition 18 times out of 19 came third with 10 gold, 13 silvers, and 14 bronze.
The host school, Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa came fourth while Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic and The Polytechnic Ibadan came fifth and sixth respectively.
Yabatech was the overall best in scrabble, Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria was overall best in female basketball. Overall in athletics went to the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti while Nasarawa state university was overall best in Judo.
The competition started on the 29th of April 2017 and ended on Saturday, May 6, 2017. The competition ended with the Governor of Nasarawa state, Governor Tanko Al-Makura in attendance and other high profiled sports dignitaries.
