Mobile data is cheap in Nigeria when compared with the USA and some African countries like South Africa. In South Africa, Vodafone sells 15mb for 9 rands; 9 rands is equivalent to 247 Naira from today’s currency exchange.
Well, UNICEF says 70.8 percent of Nigerians live on $1 per day. Imagine using your whole $1 for mobile data :); It could be the reason we complain data is expensive here. Ehh… just kidding.
Alright, guys; the best time to browse in Nigeria at the best bargain is at Midnight. Most of the network providers in Nigeria offer very cheap data plans from 12 midnight. Besides, browsing is faster at midnight. It is this time of the day I do my Netflix binging and Gomovies marathon. I watched the whole Season 7 of Game of Thrones with my Etisalat Night Plan.
In this post, you will see the price of various Night data plans in Nigeria, the time limits and their subscription codes.
MTN Night Plan; Price and Activation Code
MTN Nigeria previously had a Night plan of 4GB for 2,500 Naira but that has been discontinued. What we currently have is 500MB for 25 Naira. This plan works from 12 am to 4 am. It works on any device.
To use this plan, you need to be on the MTN pulse tariff. You can migrate to MTN pulse by dialling *406# on your mobile device or data modem and reply with 1.
After that, you can now subscribe to the MTN night plan by sending Night to 131 in an SMS.
As a result, MTN will deduct 25 Naira from your credit balance. The data can be used from 12 midnight to 4 am. MTN night plan does not rot rollover. If you do not use it all at a night, you cannot use it the next night.
Once your data is exhausted, you cannot renew till the next night. Well, we Nigerians are known for exploiting the least opportunity; some peeps actually have 4 MTN Sim cards. When the Night plan on the first Sim card expires, they put in the next Sim card. Hence, they get 1GB for just 100 Naira.
9Mobile Night Plan; Price and Activation Code
9Mobile formerly Etisalat has the fastest browsing speed in the country compared to other networks; Ask 9Mobile customers, they will tell you. But the fast internet speed comes at a cost; it’s expensive compared to other Nigerian Networks.
Just like the MTN night plan that works for Only MTN pulse subscribers, the 9Mobile Night plan only works for 9Mobile more Cliq subscribers. After Etisalat was rebranded into 9Mobile, it changed the names of its plans; easy Cliq was changed to more Cliq.
It is worthy to note that, 9Mobile gives More Cliq subscribers free 1GB night data on their first recharge of 500 Naira each week. I don’t know if this is going to last or it’s just a marketing campaign.
First of all, migrate to 9Mobile more Cliq by dialling *244*1#.
Please note that all the 9Mobile Night plan are valid from 12 am to 5 am.
- Data Cap: 250MB.
- Price: 50 Naira.
- Activation code: *229*10*10#.
The details of the 9Mobile 1GB night plan go thus;
- Data Cap: 1GB.
- Price: 200 Naira.
- Activation Code: *229*3*11#.
Interestingly, you can resubscribe as many times as possible if you exhaust the data before the allocated time (5 am).
After every night, you have to cancel this plan if you do not want to renew it. You can cancel the plan by dialling *229*0#.
Airtel Night Plan; Price and Activation Code
Airtel Nigeria offers the cheapest night plan of all. If Airtel’s network is okay in your location then this is the best option for you. You have to first migrate to Airtel SmartTrybe tariff to enjoy the night plan.
Migrate to SmartTrybe by dialling *312#, then press 1 to reply.
Airtel offers 500MB for 25 Naira and 1.5GB for 50 Naira. Dial *312# and reply with 3.
The Airtel night plan is valid from 12 am to 5 am.
You cannot subscribe to this plan more than once within the same day. Once you’ve exhausted the plan, just go and sleep :).
GLO Night Plan; Price and Activation Code
Glo(Globalcom) has the cheapest data prices in Nigeria; I mean cheap normal plans, not night plans. It’s no wonder the Nigeria Communications Commission termed it the network with the highest internet subscribers.
You don’t need a soothsayer to tell you that we Nigerians love cheap things.
Unlike other networks where you need to migrate to a certain tariff, you don’t need to migrate from your current Glo tariff to enjoy the Glo Night plan.
Dial *127*60# on your Glo line.
You could also subscribe via SMS. In an SMS, send 60 to 127.
The price is 200 Naira and it is valid from 12 am to 5 am.
If you exhaust the 1GB before the allocated time, you could resubscribe by dialling the same code above. GLO night plan does not roll over; you don’t get to use the data from the previous night.
I remember the first night I subscribed to the 9Mobile night plan and slept off before 5 am. I woke up feeling cheated :). If you are anything like me, grab a sachet of Nescafe and enjoy your midnight data.
