The West Africa Examination Council, WAEC, through its twitter handle has debunked the rankings of states based on how candidates in these states performed. WAEC rejected the claims through its official twitter stating that it was “based on someone’s imagination”. See the tweets below;

No, the rankings were a figment of someone’syear imagination. It was based on nothing. This same list was circulated last year by online social media. Please, disregard. https://t.co/TJ8BuaV9OF

In other news, the Edo State Government expressed great gratitude on the alleged ranking while commending the efforts of stakeholders in the state’s Education sector.

Mr Crusoe Osagie, the special adviser to the governor of Edo state on Media and Communication Strategy in a congratulatory speech made the following statements, “Governor Godwin congratulates the students, teachers, the entire staff of the ministry of education, our development partners and other stakeholders in the education sector on this year’s outing in the West African Examination Council ranking.

“Our state retained the third position it occupied in the 2018 ranking and that shows we sustained the tempo, but we can do better by raising the bar and we are determined to do better in subsequent rankings.”

The State Government has received backlashes from the country director of the Coalition of Good Governance and Economic Justice in Africa, Mr John Mayaki. Mr John stated that the claim was a tactic used by the governor to create nonexistent achievements.

The big question is; who created these rankings?
